Laboratory
Our laboratory obtains all tests ordered by doctors for diagnostic purposes and provides blood tests. This is another example of Swope’s desire to be a “one-stop shop” for our patients. By having a lab on site, we don’t need to ask our patients to travel to get the blood work they may need.
Swope Health Central’s laboratory has earned the COLA Laboratory Excellence Award for exemplary performance. We are very proud of our laboratory staff for receiving this recognition.

Optometry
Besides helping your children maintain the best vision possible, eye exams can help detect and treat a number of eye ailments before they turn into something much more serious.
Swope Health Services provides the following in a typical eye exam:
- Review of your child’s general health and prescriptions
- Examination of your child’s eyes
- For signs of possible disorders such as retinal problems
- For eye coordination & muscle control
- To see clearly at all distances
- To focus light rays exactly on the retina from a distance & close-up
- To change focus
The Doctor will discuss your child’s test results, give you a better understanding of overall eye health and explain your child’s eyewear prescription.

Radiology
One out of every ten patients seen at Swope Health Services uses the Radiology Department at some point during their visit. From the very young child with an undiagnosed stomach ache to the homeless person at high risk for tuberculosis, from teenagers with possible fractures to elderly women with signs of osteoporosis, all of these patients rely on access to a diagnostic imaging machine.
Our state-of-the-art equipment is used to diagnose and detect a multitude of medical conditions, the most common of which are pneumonia, fractures, bowel obstructions, kidney and gall bladder stones, some forms of cancer, arthritis, congestive heart failure, tuberculosis, collapsed lungs, scoliosis, rickets, and osteoporosis. It is also used for bone age studies to diagnose growth and thyroid problems in children.
